I'm not clear on the issue: is something wrong with your HP, so that you're looking to replace it? Are you unhappy with it, and if so, in what way(s) are you unhappy? If the latter, do I need to own two printers? One for documents and another for photo printing?

I have an (old) HP Photosmart 7510 which has black and photoblack, plus CMY cartridges. I just had a chat with an HP support agent. One thing I like about Epson, you can run pigment ink in a printer that originally was for dye ink.Īt less than $100, I don't worry about longevity, although Epson has introduced user-replaceable maintenance carts to some of the WorkForce models-kudos to Epson. If printing documents, web pages, PowerPoint slides, brochure mock-ups is the priority-I like the AIOs with pigment ink. If you want a single printer that can also do pretty good photos-a Canon printer with 5 dye inks + pigment black is an excellent choice. I find the Epson WorkForce printers with pigment ink and Precision Core technology to be excellent and Mike at Precision Colors says that Canon has taken the same tact with the newer Maxify printers-pigment ink and designed for small offices. Low energy usage.Įpson and Canon have worked hard to improve the text printing quality of inkjet printers. I like the Canon LBP printers for laser work. Canon has had that system for a while then Epson now, apparently, HP. Yes, the pigment black is designed for text printing. The M225dn can also connect using a USB cable. I have mine connected to my network via an Ethernet cable. The M225dn does not have wireless capability but I don't like to use wireless for my printers anyway. Excellent copy machine, though single sided and does not have auto double sided copy capability. It is a multi-function printer with scanning either via flatbed or by the top document feeder. It does double sided printing from the computer without user intervention.

Like I said, I don't know if Brother changed their method or not.įWIW, my current laser printer is a HP Laser Jet pro M225dn. Pollution gets more pronounced as the cartridge gets empty since there is little toner left in the cartridge. That's when I learned that Brother recycled used toner back into the main toner chamber which pollutes the toner. I had the problem of prints getting lighter as the toner cartridge got empty. I don't know if Brother changed their method but many years ago when I bought my first laser printer it was a Brother.

This allows HP laser printers to have the last page printed when the toner gets empty, as dark as the first page from a full toner cartridge. Recommend getting HP laser printers since HP dumps left over toner from the printing process into a separate chamber in the toner cartridge. Ink from inkjet printers are absorbed into the paper that makes the opposite side printing more visible. When printing double sided, laser printers lay the toner on top of the paper which reduces seeing print on the opposite side.A laser printer prints so much faster than an inkjet printer.

In effect, you will be getting a free laser printer.

If you get a second printer for document printing, strongly suggest getting a B&W laser printer and not an inkjet for the following reasons:

Or it could be that they basically are backing out of the photo printer market, leaving it to Canon and Epson. Now, it could be that their algorithms make this work, at least as well as the 7510.
