A major project in the form of the comic is taking priority right now. But there will be parallels, and I actually look forward to people pointing them out. You'll see all sorts of new things, an insight on monsters you've likely not seen in the comic (I heard Kumi might be working on a patreon thing about that, though ). The game exists in its own little dimension, with a completely new plot for our adventuring cast. So, ultimately, what does the game mean for the comic? Are they linked, a combined story? Lynn is a champ, and I'm taking the opportunity to praise them as much as possible publicly, as our prototype has been coming together astoundingly quick, and if I didn't see it for myself I would have never thought something I was writing could exist in a medium like this. Here we go again, expanding the story of the Rowenaverse in new and interesting directions! As Kumi said above, we always spoke about the possibility of a game, but whole "making the game part" always felt like a pipedream.Įnter Lynn the all-powerful, answering our dreams and making this project a reality. Please bear with us, as it will be some time yet before we can get a playable demo into your hands, but I can't wait for when we're able to share more! <3 This way, we can tell a more coherent story, and by going with the style demonstrated in the video, along with the card-based system, we can bring you more of Kumi's art! The game has gone through a few different ideas, starting as a visual novel, to something resembling a JRPG-style roguelike (you might remember some of the pixel art), but we gravitated to a Card Battler RPG! Think of a mixture of games such as Griftlands, Slay the Spire and Banners of Ruin, but with less of a roguelike approach :) (pre-)alpha stage, with borrowed assets as I work on the game's systems. Over the last couple of years I've had the pleasure and privilege of working with Kumi on a game set in the Rowenaverse! Today we're sharing a very brief glimpse of it :D But, we are super excited to at least share a little sneak peak of what's to come in the future after my comic Rowena the Barbarian ends!

The only sad news is I don't have the time yet to dig deep into the development of this game art asset wise so, it'll be a few years before there's more updates on that part. Our programmer, Lynn, has made this dream possible and we would not have gotten something that actually looks like a playable game without him!

I have dabbled in trying to make games in the past, but none of them really ever saw the light of day (the visual novel character art is taken from an attempt I made 7 years ago lol). Through our friendship, Lynn (programmer), Razesli (writer), and I (artist) casually tossed around game ideas for the Rowena verse. *IMPORTANT: Demo video of the current gameplay footage can be downloaded in the attachments!*
